Norte Chico area northern border is formed by the limit with the Norte Grande. Norte Chico refers to the area which encompasses the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo. It extends from the southern border of the Atacama Desert to just north of Santiago. Big cities of the Norte Chico area are Serana, with its small historical downtown area and a beach, and Copiapó which is more in north.
