The North Coast of Scotland is where Caithness meets Sutherland. The coast is low-lying on the east, and the north offers high cliffs and offshore stacks. Ther main towns on the North Coast are Wick and Thurso. Inland there is flat peat bog and moorland which is home to rare plants and birds. The North Coast is a spectacular coastline which includes the Duncansby Stacks, as well as Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on the British mainland. From parts of the coastline there are views of Orkney.
The Orkney and Shetland Islands are situated off the northern tip of Scotland, where the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet. Attractions in Orkney are the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral, Skara Brae and the diving wrecks below the waters of Scapa Flow. The Shetland islands offer a variety of wildlife, a spectacular coastline and many major archaeological sites to explore.
