Tighnabruaich is approximately 80 miles from Glasgow by road. This tranquil village is used by sailors, fisherman and people just generally wanting to get away from it all. But it is probably best known as a sailing destination and the Tignhabruaich sailing school is there where you can learn to windsurf and sail dinghies. There are several anchor points and the Royal Hotel (now called the An Lochan) offers free anchoring. Many sailors drop off to take advantage of the relaxed Brasserie or more formal dining room or simply to enjoy the atmosphere of the Shinty Bar which is also popular with the locals. There is a lovely coastal walk at the end of the village and the drive down the A8003 down the Western Kyle of Bute towards the town is stunning.
