Deanwood Holiday Cottages Forest of Dean Large group Family friendly Pet/Dog Friendly Holiday Cottage in Lydney, Gloucestershire, England
Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. Clean and cosy self contained holiday cottages in a peaceful courtyard setting. One & 2 bedroomed cottages, sleep 2 - 5 each, 46 in total. Large grounds. Direct access into Forest. Dogs welcome. Village pub 1/2 mile.
Deanwood Holiday Cottages are quietly situated at the end of a private driveway, away from hustle and bustle but within easy walking distance of Yorkley village where there are 2 'dog friendly' pubs, 2 general stores - one of which also contains a Post Office, hairdressers etc.
Formerly stables, our holiday cottages have been thoughtfully converted into one and two bedroom self-contained cottages, sleeping 2 - 5 guests. All our cottages have full central heating to radiators ensuring our cottages are warm and cosy all year round. The cottages are well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery, saucepans, baking tins etc. For those who want a break from cooking, we are only 3 miles from Lydney town where there are restaurants and numerous takeaways. Most of the local pubs also offer very reasonably priced meals.
With our holiday cottages all within close proximity to each other, we are popular with extended families, groups of friends etc. who book individual cottages for each family. They have a great time together and at the end of the day each family has its own space to retire to. We have 13 holiday cottages which in total can sleep 46 plus babies.
Dogs are welcome in 10 of our 13 holiday cottages. 3 cottages are kept 'pet-free'. With direct access into the Forest of Dean from our grounds, there are miles of exciting trails to be sniffed out! We have dog / muddy boot washing facilities in the courtyard. Please note that dogs are only allowed in the lounge / kitchen / dining area of the cottages, they are not allowed in the bedrooms. Dogs are charged at £25 for the first dog and £10 for each further dog in the same cottage per booking.
We provide bedding and bed linen, and beds are freshly made up ready for our guests. Bath & hand towels are also provided. For your little ones we can also provide travel cots, high chairs and stairgate – please request when booking your stay. Little ones love our fenced play area, with Wendy House, play train etc. All our guests are welcome to enjoy 'The Paddock', a large lawned area with picnic tables, football goal etc.
Living on site ourselves, and personally inspecting each cottage between bookings, we can ensure that our high standards of cleaning are maintained and that any maintenance that is required is carried out promptly. We are also here to answer your questions, give recommendations etc. but we won't intrude.
The Forest of Dean is a very popular cycling area and all abilities and ages are well catered for. There is a waymarked 'Family Trail' on forest paths as well as more challenging paths and downhill trails for the serious mountain biker. We have our own undercover, locked bike shed as well as bike washing facilities and a room for drying wet clothing.
The Forest of Dean is 'open acess' land, with miles of paths to follow. The beauty of the forest changes with the seasons - the fresh greens of spring with carpets of bluebells underneath in late spring; lushness of summer with wild flowers and shrubs in abundance - budleias, foxgloves etc.; full spectrum of autumn colours from yellows to reds to browns; and then the crisp white frosts of winter.
In the laundry are washing machines, a tumble dryer, irons and ironing boards, also a freezer, which are free for our guests to use. Wet clothing can be hung up to drip dry.
The Forest of Dean is a compact area, 35 square miles, situated opposite the Cotswolds on the west side of the River Severn. In fact it is bordered by two rivers - the Severn and the Wye. Water sports are popular on the rivers - canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding etc. Surfing is also popular on the world-famous Severn Bore.
Within the Forest of Dean are numerous attractions for all ages and interests - from the Dean Forest Steam Railway, and Perrygrove Railway, to Tintern Abbey and Goodrich Castle. Many films were filmed in the magical landscape of Puzzlewood - Merlin, Star Wars etc. Discover the mining history of the area at Clearwell Caves, Hopewell Colliery and the Dean Heritage Centre. Visit Aunt Martha's Tearooms for a Victorian Experience - the list is endless! A little further afield, within easy reach, are the cities of Gloucester, Hereford, Bristol, Cardiff. The train journeys from Lydney, either north to Gloucester or south to Cardiff are especially scenic, following the River Severn for most of the journey.
At Deanwood Holiday Cottages we are very flexible, breaks can start on any day of the week except Sunday. Prices are given for whole weeks but we also offer shorter breaks - and longer breaks too, so please ask.
We look forward to welcoming you!
