Central Turkey, also known an Central Anatolia, occupies around 19% of the country's land. Although termed a plateau, this region is actually quite diverse. Stretching inland from the Aegean, it occupies the area between the two zones of folded mountains, extending east to the point where the two mountain ranges converge. This hugely varied area is host to many exciting thing to do and see, and is a great holiday destination for almost any taste.

The region boasts striking scenery, fine museums, hundreds of Roman archeological sites, and medieval Seljuk Turkish mosques and caravanserais. Ankara: the national capital, is a big, busy city. Visit its ancient hilltop fortress, its famous Museum of Anatolian Civilisations, and the grand Mausoleum of Kemal Atatürk. It has lots of good, inexpensive restaurants as well.
