The museum, presents the Gallic era and the Antiquity of the whole department of la Mayenne, with Fort, theatre, temple, public baths under the church.
The Museum
Opened in 1995 near the fortress, this museum presents the Gallic era and the Antiquity of the whole department of la Mayenne.
The museum is offering different ways to discover the archaeological heritage:
• An introduction film places Jublains into its environment.
• A virtual tour may help the visitor to lead himself inside the very impressive virtual restored fortress
• A large model of the antique town is designed to be corrected as research necessitates.
The Fortress
This is a fortified building – maybe a warehouse – circled by earthen ramparts and then an outside wall, at the end of the 3rd century.
Inside there are also two private baths.
The Public Baths under the Church
The baths show the Mediterranean’s influence on the life style in Gaul. Symbols of the Roman civilization, they constituted a place of hygiene, sport, therapeutics and also civil and cultural life. This monumental complex takes place under the church in the middle of the village of Jublains.
The Theatre
Dating from the 1st century ad, the theatre nearly circular is close to the Gaul’s ones. A notable, Orgetorix, gave it to the town. It was rebuilt during the 2nd century ad, larger and on a semi circular plan.
The Temple
Succeeding to a Gallic sanctuary, the construction began in 66-68 AD to the beginning of the 2nd century. In this principal temple of the Diablintes’ town, is venerated a Gallic Mother-goddess.
