Cirque De Gavarnie Visitor Centre or Museum in Gedre, Hautes-Pyrenees, France

The Cirque de Gavarnie, a unesco site of interest, is only accessible on foot from the village of Gavernie. This majestic galacial amphitheatre rises to over 3000m and at the back of this falls the 400m Grande Cascade waterfall.

The round trip takes around 2 hours.

For the shorter walk follow the path on the right hand side of the valley. This starts from the church and offers excellent views of the cirque and the waterfall. To reach the foot of the cirque follow the path along the valley bottom.

More experienced walkers may like to follow one of the mountain passes to the border.

On the way back down the valley there is a hydro electric power station you can visit at Pragnères.

For children, a horse or a mule can be hired in the village.

Everyone should enjoy the annual festival of Gavarnie, a musical spectacular usually held in the second half of July. 16 July in 2009.
