Athens and the mainland
Athens is the historical capital of Europe, with monuments including the Acropolis, the ancient fortress located on a high rocky outcrop above the city of Athens.
The Ionian Islands are the islands in Ionian Sea, stretching down the west coast of Greece. They include Zakynthos (Zante), Ithaca, Corfu, Kefallonia, Lefkada and Paxi etc.
The islands offer large resorts, cliff-backed beaches and turquoise waters. Although there are large tourist resorts, the island are big enough to get away an explore the more secluded parts of the island.
Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, located in the southern side of the Aegean Sea. Although its resorts are visited by millions of holiday makers each year, it has manages to retain its culture and history. There are many historic sites to visit on the island including palaces, Medieval Castles, mosques and monasteries. In the villages you can experience the traditional lifestyle and unique architecture. The beaches of Crete are famous for their crystal water and the beautiful sands.
